Dr. János TÓTH accepted the invitation on 24 May 2007 (self-imposed deadline: 24 September 2007).

This article will briefly cover the mathematical models--both deterministic and stochastic--of homogeneous reaction kinetics, their important properties, possible simplifications, relevant applications, their numerical solution or simulations. It will concentrate on general methods and theories, and will also contain historical remarks.
