Osher, together with Sethian, developed the level set technique (cf. S. Osher & J. A. Sethian, "Fronts propagating with curvature-dependent speed: Algorithms based on Hamilton-Jacobi formulations", Journal of Computation Physics 79:12–49, 1988). Besides, he has co-authored two books on the topic (S. Osher and R. Fedkiw, "Level Set Methods and Dynamic Implicit Surfaces", Springer-Verlag, New York, 2002 and S. Osher and N. Paragios, "Geometric Level Set Methods in Imaging, Vision and Graphics", Springer-Verlag, New York, 2003).
