Editor's decalogue (draft)

  • Editor's work consist in developing his own category by preparing a plan of the topics to be treated, by inviting authors, and by following the peer review process until publication. Moreover, any help in finding experimented and worldwide acknowledged experts editors for topics that are not covered is welcome in this stage of the project: contact the editor-in-chief if you have any idea.
  • Try always to invite the highest expert in each single topic, or, even better, its inventor/discoverer. For sure that is harder than e.g. to invite a friend or a post-doc, but we believe that this is a long-term winning strategy.
  • Limit the scope of your invitations to the field of which you are responsible.Do not use titles that have a scope wider than the content of the article,e.g. "Group theory in simulations for quantum teleportation" is more appropriate than "group theory" if you invite an expert to write an article on the applications of group theory to simulations of teleportation. If you need to invite an author on a transverse field ask the corresponding editors (or the editor of a wider category).
  • Friendly invitations to authors works nicely, but if you do not use immediately the official invitation, please do not forget to reserve the article page (or inform other editors that could act inviting alternative editors).
  • An editor should be proficient in wikitext, the language in which articles are written in Scholarpedia. Please take some time to have a look at it:

  • Leo Trottier is an assistant editor in chief that could help you ..
  • Editorship is not a life--wise task: if you feel tired and you want to stop the activity, please consider leaving the place to a more motivated author. Your work will be acknowledged and you will still continue to be a Scholarpedia editor (with no category).
  • Consider buying books on Amazon via our sever (and advertise that).... That can help the project financially.

  • You should check if deadlines are expired and contact authors to ....
