This documentation is the same for all Template:Bibitem article N, where N=0,1,2,3,4,5 or N=etal is the number of authors.

• No ending white space should be added
• No punctuation should be added, unless stated
• No dots in authors initials.
• Dots in other abbreviations are allowed.
• Remember: position of named parameters is not semantically relevant

Meaning and example of values of parameters

1: TITLE

• 1=A title with an ending full stop (or other mark)!
• 1=[http://www.articleurl.org/publishedArticle.pdf A title with hyperlink to journal]

2:JOURNAL

• 2= Journal of Pizza Eaters
• 2= J. of Pizza Eat.

3: VOLUME (WITH NUMBER)

• 3=10
• 3=10(3)

4:YEAR

• 4=2008

5: PAGES

• 5=10-11
• 5=10

6: SURNAME 1 (for all 5>=N>=1 and N=etal)

• 6= Albero

7: FORENAME 1 (for all 5>=N>=1 and N=etal)

• 7= Antony
• 7= Antony T F
• 7= A T F

doi (OPTIONAL)

• doi=10.4249/scholarpedia.2791

Unlike with the preprint parameter, "doi:" should not be prepended to the DOI, nor should it be followed by a fullstop. The DOI should be given, either by the doi or preprint parameter, if the reference has a DOI.

preprint (OPTIONAL)

Must terminate with fullstop.

• preprint=arXiv:0808.000.
• preprint=[http://xxx.lanl.gov/abs/0808.000 arXiv:0808.000].

letter (OPTIONAL)

Disambiguation letter to be shown near the year.

• letter=a
• letter=b

label (OPTIONAL)

Defines an anchor that can be linked to with e.g. [[#mylabel| some text]].
