A region 3.9 arc min x 4.2 arc min (about 180,000 km diameter) near the center of the solar disk, showing the concentrations of vertical magnetic field in color (red and blue indicate different polarities). The lines trace the domains of surface flows, at generally fraction of 1 km/s, which sweep the small-scale magnetic flux into the boundaries and then the vertices of this network pattern. Provided from a correlation tracking analysis of SOHO observations (courtesy Hugh Potts, U. of Glasgow).
