A solar flare observed in the Fraunhofer G band, showing some features of the chromosphere. The flare consists of two ribbons of emission that occur near a sunspot. These ribbons show the intersection of flaring coronal structures, visible in X-ray emission not shown here, with the lower atmosphere via an arcade of magnetic flux tubes.
