Once you reserve your proposed article, you have 2 months to finish writing it and get it accepted by 2 reviewers. The acceptance deadline is displayed at the top right corner of your article.
To initiate the peer-review process:
- Identify two experts in your field who have curator privileges in Scholarpedia. One of them must be the person who sponsored your article.
- Go to your article, and press the button 'submit for peer-review' and copy-and-paste the special URL provided to you.
- Email this URL to your reviewers and ask them to peer-review the article and either accept it or provide the URL to their trusted colleague for additional advise.
Keep this URL confidential, as it provides a button to ‘accept’ or ‘reject’ your article. It also discloses the email addresses of all authors of your article so that the reviewers can verify their identity.
The article is accepted when two reviewers click on the reviewer URL and press ‘accept’ button within the two-month period, and none of the original sponsors, reviewers, or other trusted experts click on the URL and press ‘reject’ button.
Two reviewers must accept your article within the 2-month period. After that, there is a 2-week period for editors of Scholarpedia to review your article. After this 2-week period, you need to press the button 'publish article' to approve the very first "official" revision of the article. This will determine the "publication date" of your article.
The names of the reviewers will appear at the bottom of your article with the link to the revision they accepted, so that their reputation validates the content of your article.
In the case of rejection, whether explicit (a reviewer pressed ‘reject’ button) or implicit (reviewers did not press ‘accept’ button during the 2-months period), you lose the exclusivity to the article title and its text is moved to the senior author’s userpage. You can resume the article publishing process by requesting sponsorship of another curator.
