    CV

Wolfgang Rindler was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1924 and emigrated to England in 1938. He obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Mathematics at Liverpool Univeristy and Ph.D. at Imperial College, London in 1956. During 1947 to 1956 he taught first at Liverpool University and then at London University as Lecturer in Mathematics. From 1956 to 1963 he taught at Cornell University. In 1963 he moved to the newly formed Southwest Center for Advanced Studies in Dallas, which later became the University of Texas at Dallas. He has been a physics professor there ever since, winning several prestigious teaching awards. He is well known for having introduced and named event- and particle-horizons, and for Rindler space -- a flat "toy" black hole; and many more research contributions to relativity and cosmology. He is the author (and in one case co-author with Roger Penrose) of seven books. At the moment he is also co-chairing the organizing committee for the upcoming 50th Jubilee Texas Symposium on Relativistic Astrophysics in 2013.
