Jan Peters is a full professor at Technische Universität Darmstadt, heading the Intelligent Autonomous Systems Group in the Department of Computer Science. Before this, he was a senior research scientist and head of the Robot Learning Lab (RoLL) at Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics (2007-2010) and Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (2010-2011) in Tuebingen, Germany.

He holds a Ph.D. in computer science from University of Southern California (USC). Jan Peters' Ph.D. Thesis was the recipients of the Dick Volz Best US Ph.D. Thesis Runner Up Award. He also holds four M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering (Munich University of Technology), in informatics (Hagen University), in computer science (USC) and in Mechanical Engineering (USC). Peters has been a visiting Researcher at the Department of Robotics at the German Aerospace Research Center (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany, at Siemens Advanced Engineering (SAE) in Singapore, at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and at the Department of Humanoid Robotics and Computational Neuroscience at the Advanced Telecommunication Research (ATR) Center in Kyoto,Japan.

Jan Peters has been awarded different scholarships during his studies: University of Southern California Presidential Fellowship and Siemens Student Scholarship to name but a few.

His research interests include robotics, nonlinear control, machine learning, reinforcement learning, and motor skill learning.
